Why I have chosen to oversee interact
Community service has always been a central part of my life. I have grown up serving others through various organisations and outreach initiatives, and these experiences have deeply shaped who I am, both personally and professionally.
Over the years, I have been involved in initiatives such as Cancer Relay for Life, assisting with parties for children supported by the Red Cross (Down Syndrome Division), and helping schools with projects to renovate bathroom facilities or provide uniforms to learners in need, including support for learners at Dominican School for Deaf Children. I have also spent time visiting the elderly and organising celebrations for homes such as The Ark.
I have overseen the Wynberg Girls’ and Boys’ soup kitchen in support of Wynberg Haven Night Shelter, and I previously served as Head Youth Leader for a community youth group. In this role, we prepared sandwiches and collected toiletries for the Wynberg, O.W.L., and Kensington night shelters, as well as for individuals living on the streets.
As an educator, I am naturally passionate about working with young people. Teaching has strengthened my communication skills and reinforced my belief that compassion, appreciation, and service are essential qualities in developing responsible members of society. Community involvement nurtures empathy, leadership, teamwork and accountability, all of which are important life skills beyond the classroom. For these reasons, overseeing Interact is something very close to my heart. I believe it provides learners with a meaningful platform to grow not only as leaders within the school, but as active and caring citizens within their communities. I look forward to guiding and inspiring our learners as they learn the true value of service above self.
