General knowledge (GK) is a stimulating and well-rounded extra mural that aims to broaden learners’ understanding of the world around them while developing their critical thinking skills and general awareness. We will cover a wide range of topics including current affairs, geography, history, science, literature, sports, art, world facts and much more. Learners will take part in quiz-style questioning, group discussions, and team-based activities that encourage quick-thinking, collaboration and a curiosity for learning.
General knowledge sessions will take place every Tuesday morning from 07:10 to 07:55 in the Grade 4B classroom. General knowledge is open to learners in Grades 4 to 7, and the first 20 learners who sign up will be allowed to attend. So, we encourage parents to sign up promptly. Six learners from Grade 5 to 7 will be selected to compete in three inter-school GK competitions held throughout the year, with our first competition taking place on 8 May 2026. Grade 4 learners will not yet be selected to compete as competitions are aimed at older grades; however, participation at this level is strongly encouraged. Early involvement allows younger learners to build confidence, gain valuable experience, and understand the expectations of them come competition time.
If you would like your child to take part in general knowledge, please make sure to complete the sign up form. Attendance will be expected at all sessions once your child is enrolled. A GK Whatsapp group will be set up in due course to share important information, reminders and competition details.
I look forward to an exciting year of broadening our horizons, growing in confidence and building a strong foundation in general knowledge.
