Learning Support in 2024
Under the guidance of Ms Lindsay Evans, Learning Support at The Grove has big plans for 2024. Watch this space
Lindsay Evans
Head of Learning Support 2024
LIndsay Evans joins us from Kirstenhof Primary, where she has been since 2014. She brings with her 20 years of solid experience in teaching, leadership and Learning Support. Besides having previously taught at Tom Newby ( Benoni ), Camps Bay, Sun Valley and Oakley House, she has also substituted at The Grove before!
Ms Evans' talents include public speaking so we look forward to hearing all about the department, when she comes onboard 😃
We wish her a long and happy tenure amongst us Grovites.
Chelsie Rowbotham
Learning Support 2024
My name is Miss Rowbotham. I have been a teacher for 8 years and I have spent the last 7 of those years teaching at Wynberg Boys’ Junior School. My qualifications include two Honours degrees, firstly in Educational Support and secondly in Education Psychology. When I am helping children to learn, I love to use games, songs and other fun activities to engage them and create a love of learning that will last a lifetime. I am an avid animal enthusiast, I enjoy walking in nature and love making art, particularly painting and drawing. I cannot wait to join The Grove and be a part of your amazing community!
Amy Ingham
Learning Support 2024
Mrs Ingham joins The Grove, from Kirstenhof, where she has worked for seven years. She has an honours degree in psychology and will begin her Masters in Educational Psychology in 2024.
Her passion is helping children with learning, and supporting their parents.
Amy has a taste for adventure, and loves hiking. She’s excited to join our team next year, and to get involved in club activities too!
Welcome, Amy - we are also looking forward to it :-)
More about Decodable Readers:
https://www.readingrockets.org/article/what-are-decodable-books-and-why-are-they-important
Decodable Readers
Decodable Readers are books that encourage beginner readers to decode, rather than guess at, words. They are hugely valuable to young learners, and an immense help to those struggling with reading. Unfortunately, these resources are scarce and expensive.
Our Learning Support staff at times get access to electronic versions, but they need help turning these e-books into real, durable books that little hands can hold.
Calling for Cover-ers
Right now, we need help covering books. This can be done at home: collect books and pre-cut covers, and return the covered books to school. If you can help, please contact Lindy at ljames@thegrove.co.za
Are you...
looking for a way to make a contribution?
able to gift time, money, connections or skills to The Grove's Learning Support programme?
full of creative ideas for printing and binding many books?
the owner of a large printing press....? (we can dream!)
