Principal's Corner

Dear Grove families,

We wanted to inform you that there are a few Grove learners who are currently at home with chicken pox.

“Chickenpox is an airborne and highly contagious infectious disease characterised by fever and a blister-like, itchy rash caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV).” For more information, here is a link to more details from South Africa’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

We encourage all families to monitor their children for any symptoms of chicken pox, such as fever, headache, or a rash that starts as small, red bumps and progresses to fluid-filled blisters.  If you notice any of these symptoms in your child, please keep them at home and seek medical advice. Please also let reception@thegrove.co.za and your child’s class teacher know that they will be absent. There is a varicella (chickenpox) vaccine. Talk to your doctor about whether or not this vaccine is right for you and your family.

We want to reassure you that we are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for all our students and staff. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Mrs Candice Joshua

Principal

Tribute to Ms.Nikitha Sobethwa

Speech delivered at assembly, on 22 February 2023

The past number of days have been very difficult for the Grove community, for our learners and for our staff, but especially for Nikitha’s family.

Without warning, we find ourselves having to say goodbye to one of us: a person whose kindness, friendliness and fun-loving attitude touched many of our lives, every day.

Colleagues will remember Nikitha for her sense of purpose, her never-quit attitude and her irrepressible zest for life. Learners will remember her warmth and her sincerity. We can all honour her by cherishing these memories.

To her family, who are suffering her loss most acutely, we wish peace and comfort.

As a school, the Grove will endeavour to be a support, a refuge, a ‘home’ for Onako as he continues his educational journey.

I would like to thank the Grove community for their unhesitating support, their overwhelming generosity and their outpourings of love during this difficult time. It is infinitely encouraging to observe individuals who instinctively draw closer together in times of celebration, and even more so when hardship must be endured. May we continue to harness our blessings and our privileges to the nourishment of our community. May we never let go of HOPE, may we fix our gaze to that which is good in our world.

Mrs.Joshua spoke to this slide at the Parent meetings in early February.
