Medication at School
To prevent children from carrying medicines in their bags and medicating themselves, we ask that parents whose children require medication at school complete this Google Form. We will reply with a consent form and make arrangements for a staff member to support and monitor the administration of medication.
This form only needs to be completed if your child requires medication at school.

27 February 2023
Today the City of Cape Town contacted The Grove.
City Health staff will visit our school in the coming days. They will provide vaccination consent forms, which will be sent home with learners. They will also discuss a date on which vaccination of children whose guardians have returned signed consent forms, will take place at school.
We will share a further update when the consent forms go home with Grove learners.

26 February 2023
As you may have heard, the National Institutes for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has declared a measles outbreak in the Western Cape. The NICD highlights that children are the most affected age group, with 41% of cases in 5–9-year-olds and 19% of cases in 10–14-year-olds [1]. We are sharing some information and resources below for your consideration.
Measles is preventable through a safe and effective vaccine. [2]
Western Cape DOH vaccination campaign
The Western Cape Department of Health has measles vaccination campaigns underway with “additional booster doses available for every child under the age of 15 from 6 February until 31 March 2023” [2].
Children under the age of 15 are eligible and urged to get vaccinated. No child in school or crèche will be vaccinated unless his or her parent or legal guardian has given permission by signing a consent form [3]
Parents and caregivers should be alert to the signs and symptoms. It is never too late to vaccinate against measles. Please do not delay in taking your children to the nearest clinic for vaccination [3]
More about measles
Measles is a highly contagious, serious disease caused by a virus [2].
The measles virus also weakens the immune system and makes a child more vulnerable to other infectious diseases like pneumonia and diarrhea [2].
Most measles-related deaths are caused by complications associated with the disease. Serious complications are more common in children under the age of 5, or adults over the age of 30 [2].
Measles patients present with fever, rash, and one or more of these symptoms: cough, red eyes, and runny nose [3].
The role of The Grove
At present, there is not a specific vaccination campaign planned at The Grove. If that changes, we will let you know.
